  • "Our Family Caring for Your Family"

Mount Preschool started as a Parent run pre-school as early as 1972. It has steadily progressed through the years and has seen many changes. Since 2014 it has been run as a private business by the Manager, Kay Guildford-James and has extended its opening times to provide full wrap-around care for children from 2 years old until they leave to start primary school.

Children who attend Mount Preschool are welcomed into a warm, secure and friendly atmosphere, where they are supported in their early years by a team of well qualified and dedicated staff.

  • "Outcomes for Children are Good. Children acquire the essential skills they need for the next stage of their learning and eventual move on to school."

  • Understanding the World

Understanding the World is a category on the Early Years Foundation Stage and is where children develop their knowledge of the world around them. As part of this years planning, we had a delivery of 5 caterpillars in a pot with their food. We watched as the caterpillars ate the food and grew bigger and bigger. They then crawled to the top of the pot and formed chrysalid shells around their bodies. Almost two weeks later they started to emerge as butterflies. We kept them in a net and gave them flowers, fruit and sugar water to feed on. After a few days, we took them outside in the play ground and watched as they flew away to complete their life cycles.

During these weeks the children have drawn pictures of both caterpillars and butterflies. They have read the "Very Hungry Caterpillar" story and used toys as props to support the book. They have completed puzzles and played games linked to this theme too.

Outside in the play ground we have also built a wildlife area in our huge tyre. The children planted seeds of flowers that will attract butterflies and bees and made a mini pond which has pond plants and tadpoles in.

In our garden boxes we have planted some summer flowers and onions that we hope to harvest later this year.
